Our first of many ‘Pelican Presents’ sees Jamie Allsopp talk about the history of Allsopps Beer.

Almost 300 years since our first brew, and after over 60 years in the wilderness, Samuel Allsopp & Sons is back. We’ve had our beer impounded by Napoleon and supplied Catherine the Great’s Banquets. In 1822, we brewed the original Burton India Pale Ale in a teapot. We’ve even sent our beer to the Arctic to rescue explorers on the North West Passage. What finished us off was that we built England’s largest lager brewery in the 1890’s, sadly a bold move a tad ahead of its time. The Allsopp name disappeared from bars. Our assets were destroyed, our original recipes lost. Until now; the brewery has been relaunched by the nine times great grandson of the founder, Jamie Allsopp and is now being proudly served in The Pelican.
